Martin Law - Artist
Martin Law is an artist devoted to honouring the architectural heritage of Aotearoa New Zealand. After a distinguished career in London as an architectural perspective artist, Martin moved to New Zealand in 2007 and established ‘Painter of Paradise’ in 2015.
Guided by a formal, thoughtful and deeply observant style shaped by his background in architectural design and construction, Martin’s work focuses on precision, accuracy and storytelling. Each painting is not only an artwork, but a record of place—an homage to the buildings, histories and communities that define New Zealand’s character.
Every new series begins with extensive research trips across the country. On location he gathers detailed information: GPS data, architectural sketch studies, colour palettes, photography, as well as invaluable insights from locals who know their buildings best.
This meticulous approach allows Martin to capture more than just a view—he preserves the spirit of each setting. His artworks resonate with those who cherish New Zealand’s landscapes, heritage buildings and the stories embedded within their walls.
Painter of Paradise is the home of this lifelong project, a growing archive of New Zealand’s architectural soul rendered with care, intellect and affection.
Martin is proud to be a Board Member of the Civic Trust Auckland, a non profit public interest group, incorporated in 1968, with activities and interests throughout the greater Auckland region including:Protection of natural landformsPreservation of heritage, in all its aspectsEncouragement of good planning, for the city and regionRemoval of visual and environmental contamination
