Commission Enquiry
Commissions
Martin Law welcomes commissions from individuals, families, organisations and heritage groups who wish to celebrate a building or place of personal significance.
With a background in architectural design, construction and architectural perspective work, Martin brings an exceptional level of precision and respect to each commissioned painting. Whether it is a much-loved family home, a character villa, a rural homestead, a marae, a church, a commercial building or a historic landmark, his aim is always the same: to honour the architecture, the landscape and the story that connects you to it.
What to Expect
Every commission begins with a conversation. Martin will take the time to understand:
The building or place you would like painted
Its location and history
The mood or season you are drawn to
Any personal details or stories you would like reflected in the work
The intended size, format and setting for the finished piece
Where possible, Martin will visit the site himself. As with his own series, he gathers:
On-site sketch drawings and compositional studies
A considered colour palette
Digital and 35mm photography
Notes on light, orientation and context in the landscape
Local knowledge and stories that add depth and authenticity
This careful research ensures that the painting is not only accurate, but also richly characterful and specific to you.
Availability
Martin takes on a limited number of commissions each year to ensure he can give each work the attention and research it deserves. Timelines will depend on:
The complexity and size of the piece
Location and access for site visits
Any particular date you have in mind (for example, a gift or anniversary)
If you have a special date or event, it is best to make contact as early as possible.
